Call for Scientific Research Proposals

Carbon Management Canada is announcing a call for proposals for its third round of research funding.

This call emphasizes research that has the potential to have major impact on greenhouse gas emissions from the upstream fossil fuel industry and from large stationary emitters. CMC expects to allocate around $10 million to this call.

New for this Funding Round

  • This is a paperless Call for Proposals. All applications must be made through the Carbon Commons –
  • To submit, an applicant must be a member of the Carbon Commons. To Register
  • It is compulsory that applicants submit a Letter of Intent (LOI)
  • In addition to its fossil fuel focus, CMC is now encouraging research to develop strategies to eliminate and reduce CO2 emissions from mining, metallurgical operations and construction materials manufacture.
  • There is a much greater expectation of supporting industrial funding in this round than in previous round

New for this Funding Round

Nov. 15, 2011: Call for proposals issued

Dec. 9, 2011: Deadline for Compulsory Letter of Intent (LOI) summaries

Dec. 23, 2011: Feedback to applicants on one page summary LOIs

Feb. 15, 2012: Deadline for Proposals

It is expected that successful proposals will display innovative and game-changing approaches that are more than incremental enhancements of traditional approaches. Researchers working on exciting early stage work that may be too preliminary to warrant a multi-year fully networked proposal are encouraged to submit for smaller ‘starter’ funding amounts to facilitate early background work that may lead to high value research areas.
