Toronto, ON—October 15, 2013— We are pleased to announce Gord Lambert, Executive Advisor Sustainability and Innovation, Suncor, as the recipient of Outstanding Achievement at the third annual Excellence in Corporate Responsibility (ECR) Awards. The ECR Awards, created to honour and celebrate corporate Canadians for outstanding work and dedication towards creating sustainable and ethical practices in business, will take place Wednesday November 6, 2013 in Toronto at One King West.
“Gord has an impressive 30-year career, demonstrating leadership and innovation in the resource sector,” said Laurie Simmonds, President and CEO, Green Living Enterprises. “He has driven collaboration and the sharing of research and technology, which has led to unprecedented improvement and advancement of sustainability in the oil sands.”
A model for collaboration
“Gord is considered by most to be the elder statesman of sustainability in the oil and gas sector, and has set both a path and an example for others to follow,” said Matthew McCulloch, Director Consulting Group, Pembina Institute. “In addition to helping advance Suncor’s renewable energy strategy, Gord has modeled both intra- and cross-sectoral collaboration; as well as, contributed to the development of a globally unprecedented industry collaboration initiative in COSIA (Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance).”
“Gord has spearheaded real, tangible efforts in the industry to make progress on innovation through environmental practices,” said Chad Park, Executive Director of The Natural Step Canada. “He has done so with a real commitment to doing things differently, challenging paradigms, engaging others, and taking leadership to enable collaboration.”
Committee and board involvement
Gord is currently Suncor’s Shareholder Steering Committee representative on COSIA, is involved with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, on the Boards of the Suncor Energy Foundation, Learning for a Sustainable Future (LSF), the Canadian Water Network, is Chair of the Board of Carbon Management Canada, and Co-chair of the Co-ordinating Committee of the Oil Sands Leadership Initiative (OSLI).
