Carbon Management Canada (CMC) is where researchers working on carbon management technologies can move their ideas and innovations from the bench to the pilot stage. Our approach is multifaceted and dependent on your needs.
The focus of CaMI is on containment of fluids in the subsurface, detection and monitoring of movement of subsurface fluids, fate of fluids in different zones, and the detection and identification of origins of gases such as CO2 or methane in aquifers or at the surface. Attached to the institutes is a Field Research Station in southern Alberta for national and international academic and non-academic industrial researchers who are developing measurement, monitoring and verification technologies.
The central mission of the Carbon Capture and Conversion Institute is transitioning technologies from bench scale batch processes to continuous processes that can be scaled up for industrial application, then maturing and scaling them up to intermediate pilot. While the primary focus is CO2 capture technologies and conversion of CO2 to other products, the CCCI works with scale up of other industrial processes that result in reduction of GHG emissions.
A project with sound experimental design is not enough to drive a product from the bench to full scale use. Researchers need funding partners, end-user customers, distribution and marketing channels, manufacturing and fabrication pathways, and must also consider regulatory and permitting factors. CMC brings together consortia to address the key uncertainties and challenges that each of these groups requires to help researchers make sound decisions as they move their research forward.
