As the world’s industrial economies decarbonize, there is a growing need to develop cost-efficient ways to capture carbon from industrial processes and convert carbon into value-added products that can be sold. The Carbon Capture and Conversion Institute in Richmond, B.C. provides facilities and experts to help innovators de-risk, test and scale up technologies aimed at reducing industrial greenhouse gas emissions.
Our multidisciplinary team has expertise in developing technologies and processes for the oil and gas industry as well as chemical, steel, and cement manufacturing. The CCCI’s partners include large and small businesses, government, and academics who seek to develop, test and scale up early-stage technologies for these industrial sectors – taking them from the lab bench to pre-pilot operation.
A Global Network of Collaborators

We’ve pulled together a broad global network to take processes and technologies forward.
- We partner with BC Research to create an ecosystem where engineering, design and fabrication experts work with clients to solve challenges encountered during the scale-up process.
- We collaborate with experts from global companies and research institutes to advance novel technologies.
- We work with with academics, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students at the University of British Columbia. Their in-depth understanding of fundamental science complements the practical experience of experts in our facility.
- We are supported by investments from Natural Resources Canada and the Province of British Columbia.
